Fall 2024 High Point Furniture Market Recap

The weather has just started to turn as fall brings orange and red painted trees, it's that time of year once again, High Point Furniture Market. High Point is the largest furniture market in the world, held twice a year this event showcases the new trends in furniture, lighting, and accessories. With over 11,500,000 sq. ft. of showroom space to see this event is sought out from people all over the world. The Surroundings Design Team attends this spectacular event each year to better our knowledge and get artistically inspired. For interior designers it is hard to find a better event in the states to engage and experience the possibilities of our field.

At market, Surroundings meets with many of our current vendors in order to feel and see at true scale the new and current lines they are carrying. While our showroom allows clients to interact with pieces that may be utilized in their space, market allows designers to have this connection with all of the items that we may not have space for on our floor. This allows us to make the most informed decisions we can for our clients' needs. During this trip there were some concentrated categories that we were there to see, we also were able to connect with new potential vendors that could bring value to our clients.

For market, many vendors will have exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces for sale on a first-come, first-serve basis. This could be items such as live edge tables, custom art, small batch fabrics, or handmade pottery. This year for example, a pair of chairs Christine loves were upholstered in a hand painted fabric. A blue velvet that appears to have been painted with a white treatment as if it was a representation of ripples in water. Not only were the chairs stunning, but they will never be made in this fabric that is so impressive on its own. This pair are  going to be a gorgeous addition to our showroom floor. With so many vendors, so many lines, and so many options, it amazes  that yet through all the weeds, they are able to find the roses. As a young designer, it was incredible to see Christine and the Surroundings Team interact in this environment. Observing what they were drawn to, motivated by, as well as what they could picture using in current and upcoming projects was captivating. With prodigious food, conversation, and experiences this trip would still not nearly measure up to the people I was able to experience it with. I am already so excited for next year.
